History of Grays

Shadowed behind the stacks of the Proserpine Sugar Mill is one of the
Whitsundays’ greatest achievers - a family business that has grown from
humble beginnings in the backyard of a Main Street home to an
international importer and exporter, whose products can be found across
the globe and whose timber forms part of some of Australia’s most
famous buildings.

Grays Sawmill, a company which has embraced change, seized opportunity, is a player on the international stage and from the outset has been a family business the region can proudly call its own.

The year 2006 saw Grays Sawmill celebrate 70 years of continuous trading.
From the ups and downs of industry change, through setbacks and
business triumphs, Grays has formed an integral part of Whitsunday
history.

Recently Grays introduced a new more environmentally friendly way of treating timber, and only recently extended the timber truss plant to construct the larger trusses required for new homes. Each day Grays Sawmill can receive calls from anywhere in Australia or overseas and the semi trailers roll in and out laden with timber.
